Country Garden, North west of Edinburgh

Large Garden

This 5 acre garden surrounding a substantial Jacobite house had been all but abandoned for decades but had the advantage of many mature native trees. The client was involved and excited about totally transforming a place he loves.

In a large-scale project lasting two years several gardens were created within the landscape around the house. A semi formal oval garden with extensive mixed borders sits alongside a more formal symmetrical area with an armillary sphere and knot garden. To the north of the house an avenue of Japanese maples and azaleas  underplanted with Geranium 'Rozanne' and Bergenia 'Sunningdale' leads from the orangery while a second path framed by box cones leads to the swimming pool which is surrounded by beds of lavender.
